Guidelines for Hall of Fame Nominations

Categories

  1. Builder - must be or have been an owner, major principal or senior officer of a home building or development company operating in California.
  2. Government – Former elected or appointed officials who have clearly demonstrated their support of the homebuilding and development industry by their actions.
  3. Support - Individuals whose careers are or have been closely related to, contributed to, and clearly supportive of the homebuilding and development industry

Criteria

Nominees will be evaluated on their achievements and leadership in these areas:

Career
  • Success and/or reputation of company they have created
  • Pioneering or leading-edge work done
  • Influence in the marketplace
Industry involvement and participation
  • Individual and company
  • BIA/HBA volunteer service and key leadership role(s)
  • CBIA/NAHB volunteer service and key leadership role(s)
Community involvement and support - individual and company
  • Service and commitment to non-profit community organizations
  • Outstanding achievements and awards
Legislative/political activities in support of homebuilding and development industry

Timeline

  • August: CHF Chair appoints North and South Subcommittee Chairs that also serve as co-chairs of the Committee.
  • September: Nomination Packets mailed to Trustees, Past Honorees, CEOs at local associations.
  • October: Nomination packets are due. Selection Subcommittees meet.
  • November: Subcommittees make recommendations to Selection Committee. Selection Committee meets to review and vote on nominees. Selection Committee’s final recommendations submitted to CHF Board.
  • December: Trustees vote on Selection Committee’s recommendations. Inductees and local associations notified. Acceptance verified. Press release prepared.

Restrictions

  1. A candidate nominated from either the Builder or Support category must be or have been a member of a local association.
  2. No individual may nominate more than one person each year, except when acting on behalf of their local association.
  3. Multiple nominations from one company in the same year are discouraged except in exceptional circumstances.
  4. Out-of-state nominees can be nominated only if their contributions during their active careers were California-oriented.
