Six Homebuilding Leaders Named to California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame

SACRAMENTO - Six homebuilding leaders from around California will be inducted this year into the California Homebuilding Foundation Hall of Fame.
Named to the Hall of Fame, Class of 2010: Robert F. Adelizzi, Monterra Corporation;
Horace Hogan II, Brehm Communities; Kenneth M. Miller, Morgan Miller Blair,
William M. Niemi, Niemi Development Partners LLC; Bert Selva, Shea Homes; and
Geoffrey L. Stack, SARES-REGIS Group.
The Hall of Fame, celebrating its 26th year, is comprised of 176 men and women whose contributions have resulted in the long-term advancement of homebuilding, construction, development, marketing, finance or related services within the building industry in California. The honorees are alsoinvolved in public service, civic, social and philanthropic organizations in their communities.
“All six of this year’s inductees are truly giants in the industry, people who have helped thousands of California families attain the American dream of homeownership, while giving selflessly to make their communities a better place to live,” said Patrick Costanzo, Regent Properties, who is chairman of the California Homebuilding Foundation, which sponsors the Hall of Fame.

The members of the California Homebuilding Hall of Fame, Class of 2010, are:
Robert F. Adelizzi
Founder
Monterra Corporation
With a career spanning four decades, Robert Adelizzi has over 40 years experience in banking, real estate finance, homebuilding, land development and law. Past positions include Chairman and CEO of Guaranty Federal Bank, President and CEO of HomeFed Bank and Chairman of Home Capital Development Group.
Bob has served on the Board of Directors of numerous public, private and civic organizations including: Chairman of the Board of Children’s Hospital of San Diego, Chairman of San Diego County United Way, Charter member of The University of California’s LUSK school of Real Estate, Trustee of the University of California’s Real Estate Institute and Chairman of the Board of Visitors for USD Law School.
Currently, in addition to serving on the Board of Directors of The Corky McMillin Companies, he also serves on the Boards of St. Vincent de Paul and the San Diego Historical Society as well as maintaining active status as a member of Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land economics society.
Bob was admitted to the California bar in 1963 after he served as a Captain in the USMC. One of many outstanding tributes paid to he and his wife, Tommi is being the first recipients of the “Tradition of Caring” award given by the Salvation Army for community leadership.
Horace Hogan II

Horace Hogan II is the architect of Brehm Communities’ transformation – beginning in 1999 – from a small, single-county builder founded in the 1960s to a 21st century regional powerhouse engaged in every aspect of residential real estate, from acquiring and entitling land to building and selling homes throughout Southern California. Implementing a strategic plan spawned from 30 years of real estate experience, Hogan continues to guide his firm’s evolution from successful homebuilder to award-winning developer of master-planned communities.
Mr. Hogan’s dynamic leadership has led to myriad successes for Brehm Communities, including: its distinction as 2006 Builder of the Year by the Riverside Chapter of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Southern California; its completion of the award-winning master-community of Vintage Reserve in Temecula; and its continuing efforts to develop as well as market four of five neighborhoods in the master-community of Lake Hills Reserve in Riverside.
His reputation as an innovator in the creation and successful completion of communities and neighborhoods led to his selection as BIASD Hall of Fame recipient in 2010. Currently he serves as State Representative and member of the executive committee of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) and is Co-Chairman of the Pacific Coast Builder Conference (PCBC). He has previously served as Chairman to the Board of Directors for the California Building Industry Association. Mr. Hogan remains on the Residential Real Estate Committee at the University of San Diego and was appointed by the Mayor to the City of San Diego’s Affordable Housing Task Force.
Hogan holds a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from Harvard University and a bachelor’s in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He resides in Carlsbad, California with his wife Kimberly and their two children, Jacob and Savanna.
Kenneth M. Miller

Morgan Miller Blair
Ken Miller has over 30 years of experience as a civil trial lawyer that he brings to bear for clients in real estate related matters. Prior to entering private practice, Ken served as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In 1985, he co-founded Morgan Miller Blair with Bert Morgan (ret.) and Richard Blair.
Ken’s practice emphasizes risk management, litigation and counseling clients in construction, real estate and related insurance issues. A substantial portion of his practice is devoted to complex construction and real estate matters, primarily representing and counseling home builders and developers. He works with senior management of his homebuilder/developer clients in all aspects of their product construction and sales.
A trained mediator and arbitrator, Ken pioneered the first advisory jury proceedings in Contra Costa County Superior Court. He has acted as an advocate in hundreds of real estate and construction settlement conferences and mediations. Ken has been recognized as a Northern California “Super Lawyer” in the Law & Politics magazine surveys consecutively from 2004-2009.
Ken graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles and holds a law degree from University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the Contra Costa County and Napa County Bar Associations, as well as the Building Industry Association of the Bay Area and the North State Building Industry Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Napa Valley Symphony from 2004 to 2007.
William M. Niemi

William Niemi has been a leader in the building industry over the course of a long and distinguished career. He is highly respected in the region for his business acumen, his philanthropic efforts, and his willingness to take the lead in improving his industry and his community.
Before founding Niemi Development Partners, Bill was the President of Dunmore Homes helping to expand the company’s operations into four states. Prior to Dunmore Bill served as President of FPI Development a regional multifamily developer. Bill began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with Price Waterhouse, serving various industries in Michigan and California.
Bill served in all the leadership roles of the North State Building Industry Association, completing ten years of service on the Board of Directors, including a year as Chairman of the Board. In addition, Bill has been an active leader with the California Building Industry Association.
Bill’s philanthropic activities include founding President of HomeAid of Sacramento, supporting the restoration of the historic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento and a long time supporter and friend of the California Homebuilding Foundation and the Los Rios Community College District Foundation.
Bill is a dedicated husband and father. He and his wife, Beth, are the parents of two adult children, Holly and Kelly.
Bert Selva
President and CEO
Shea Homes
Bert Selva is president and CEO of Shea Homes, the largest, privately-held homebuilder in America which operates in California, Arizona, Colorado, Washington and Florida. Shea Homes is a division of the J. F. Shea Co., Inc., one of the oldest and largest privately-held construction companies in the country.
Bert joined Shea Homes in 1996 and previously served as the president of the Colorado division, which he started in September 1996. During his tenure, he was responsible for all homebuilding and commercial development activities in Colorado. Under his leadership, the 22,000-acre Highlands Ranch was acquired and developed, and today is one of the nation’s leading master-planned communities.
Prior to joining Shea Homes, Bert was a senior executive and involved in all aspects of the start-up and business operations of the Colorado division of KB Home. He previously served as chief financial officer with Signature Homes in Orange County, California. Additionally, Bert has served as a management consultant with Arthur Andersen & Company, and as an international banker working in Hong Kong, Seoul, Korea and Tokyo, Japan.
In January 2010, Bert was presented with the “Legend of Residential Marketing” award by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). In November 2008, Bert was presented with the prestigious “Builder of the Year” award by the California Building Industry Association of Southern California. Prior to that, he was presented with the “CEO of the Year” award by Builder and Big Builder magazines. Bert serves on the National Advisory Board of HomeAid America. He is also a National Vice President, MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association)/Augie’s Quest, focused on treatments and cures for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease). Bert is a member of Leading Builders of America and past president of the Homebuilders Association of Metro Denver.

Geoffrey L. Stack
Managing Director and Principal
SARES-REGIS Group
Geoffrey L. Stack is a Managing Director of Irvine based SARES-REGIS Group, one of the largest, most diversified commercial and residential real estate firms in the West. He is the partner directly responsible for all residential operations of the company including development, acquisitions, finance and management activities. The SARES-REGIS Group was formed in 1993 through the merger of two West Coast real estate leaders; Newport Beach based Regis Group and The SARES Company of Irvine (formerly known as The Sammis Company).
Before the merger, Mr. Stack was President of Regis Homes and led the firm in becoming an established leader in the development, management and sale of multifamily rental and for-sale properties. Under his leadership, from 1977 to present, Regis converted over 8,700 apartments to condominiums with gross sales in excess of $900 million. Since the early 1980's, Regis has built over 19,000 apartments and condominiums.
Mr. Stack is a graduate of Georgetown University and earned an MBA at the Wharton School. Prior to entering the field of real estate development, Mr. Stack worked as an aide to U.S. Senator Paul H. Douglas and served three years as an officer in the USMC attaining the rank of Captain.
Mr. Stack sits on the Board of Directors of the Tejon Ranch Company (NYSE); Georgetown University Board of Regents; the Board of Directors of the California Housing Council; the Board of Directors of the National Multi Housing Council. He is a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute and is on the Policy Advisory Board of the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics, University of California, Berkeley. He is the past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Multi Housing Council, past Chairman of the ULI Multifamily Silver Residential Council and past Director of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. He is a founding Trustee of the Cystinosis Research Foundation.
